Porbandar is a small yet an important city located on the coast of Gujrat, India. The city relates to famous people like Sudama, a friend of Lord Krishna and the well known famous freedom fighter Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi popularly known as Mahatma Gandhi. Being located next to the Arabian Sea, Porbandar enjoys a moderate climate. Porbandar, seated in the farthest west coast of India on the Arabian Sea, is considered to a major al-weather port. It is a deep sea port which was constructed towards the end of the 20th century.

With an average elevation at zero meters the topography of Porbandar is in general flat and covered with plain land. Yet there are some hilly areas that are found nearby the city such as Barda Hills. This city is an integral part of the Kathiawar peninsula.

People of Porbandar mainly depend on fishing industry as a means of livelihood. The proximity to the Arabian Sea and the port has proved as an advantage. The city continues to have commercial relation through trade and commerce within the country as well as other countries by sea routes along with the roadways.

Export and import business that involve fish is a major business for the people of Porbandar. The largest company that exports fish from Gujarat is based here. Silver Seafood, the fish company earns a lot of revenue for Gujrat by exporting huge amount of fish. This industry also provides employment to a large number of people in Porbandar.

How to Reach Porbandar

Reaching Porbandar by road, train of a flight is easy. If travelling by road it is about 419 Kms from the city of Ahmedabad. It is also well connected to various other cities in Gujarat like Jamnagar and Rajkot. The travelling distance from Jamnagar is about 124 kms where as the distance of the city from Rajkot is around 187 kms.

Porbandar has an airport which apart from civilian operations also has military presence. The Porbander railway station is the main rail connection to the area. Regular train services are available to places such as Ahmedabad, Rajkot, Vadodara, Surat, Banwad, Okha and Mumbai.
